Lunch

By D.K. Spencer

For the first time ever, we attempted to navigate a black hole to the other side. Our vessel is designed to withstand the crushing gravity of six point five billion suns. Theoretically, it’s possible.

Though the odds are against us, we all signed on knowing our mission might fail.

Spherical in shape, two and a half meters round, our ship’s surface reflects no light. The four of us in anticipation ride the rim of the event horizon nearing light speed, before plopping into the hole itself.

Now on the other side we realize all too late, no one’s packed sandwiches.
